Rose on Eyre covers the Eyre Peninsula portion of the State of South Australia.
Bright colours and subtle hues of different rose cultivars across South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula are contrasted against clear, sunny, blue skies for much of the year—ideal for growing the Queen of the flowers. The region is home to many skilled rosarians and Roses on Eyre, a club of The Rose Society of South Australia. ROE formed in Cleve in June 2001 and quickly gained interest from those in surrounding districts. Today the club has approximately 60 members from Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Cowell, Cleve, Tumby Bay, Kimba, Wudinna and Minnipa.
ROE meets four times a year, rotating its venues in towns where members live. It’s common for some members to do a round-trip of 500kms—such is the draw of meetings. They include guest speakers, garden visits, lots of social chitchat (mainly about the weather!) and bloom competitions.
