South Australians invited to help name the Governor’s official Rose

South Australians are being invited to participate in a statewide competition launched today to name the official rose of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, 36th Governor of South Australia.

For the first time, the public is being given the opportunity to name a Governor's rose, with the winning entry becoming a permanent part of the Governor's Rose Garden at Government House.
Developed in partnership with the Rose Society of South Australia, the Governor's Rose Garden honours each Governor with a dedicated rose commemorating their service to the State.

The rose created for Her Excellency is a striking yellow Hybrid Tea rose, featuring glossy foliage, abundant blooms and a mild fragrance.

Throughout her distinguished diplomatic career and now as Governor, Her Excellency has championed connection, understanding, respect and collaboration. South Australians are encouraged to submit a name inspired by these values, while also reflecting the unique spirit of South Australia.

"Rod and I are delighted to invite South Australians to suggest a name for my rose,” Her Excellency said.

"We look forward to reading your suggestions.”

The competition is open to all South Australian residents, with one entry permitted per person.

Each submission must include a proposed rose name and a brief explanation of no more than 100 words outlining the inspiration behind the entry.

The winning rose name will become a permanent feature of the Governor's Rose Garden at Government House, with the successful entrant invited to attend the official rose naming ceremony.

Entries close at 5.00pm on Friday, 17 August 2026.
