Tate is an enthusiastic rose grower, researcher, and pruner. He has a special interest in how the science and history of rose breeding and growing influence pruning and management of roses in today's climate. He shares his knowledge and experience in writing Cultural Notes for the Society’s member publication, called Bulletin, as an occasional speaker at meetings, and at pruning demonstrations open to the public.
